What IS Cavitation?

Skincare and Body Sculpting Without Downtime
What IS Cavitation?
When used for body sculpting, ultrasonic cavitation, often called ultrasonic lipolysis, uses focused sound waves to disrupt stubborn fat cells under the skin. The body then processes the contents of those cells, removing these freed materials through the lymphatic system. This process takes place over the next few days and weeks. As a non-surgical option with no incisions, cavitation carries almost no downtime compared to liposuction. The goal for a Cavitation Routine is refined contours, not fewer pounds. Individual results differ.
This service traditionally focuses on areas where the client is dealing with stubborn fat cells. Common treatment areas include:
- Abdomen & Flanks
- Face & Neck (RF only)
- Arms (upper area/”wings”)
- Legs
A quick note on safety and expectations: non-invasive doesn’t mean zero risk. Temporary redness, swelling, or tenderness can occur. People who are pregnant or who have certain implanted devices (like pacemakers) should avoid therapeutic ultrasound procedures. Always consult a qualified provider to review your health history and goals.
The Advantages of Non Invasive Services
It’s easy to see why body sculpting is so popular.
- Little to no downtime. Most people get back to their normal activities after a session.
- Comfortable & quick. Expect a 40 minute visit. Many clients describe a warm sensation and a light buzzing sound from the device.
- Targeted results. Cavitation focuses on small, stubborn areas (think belly, hips and arms).
Helping you look and feel healthier
When it comes to body confidence, RF (Radio Frequency) Bodywork can complement your healthy habits by refining those stubborn areas that are resisting your efforts in diet and exercise. It’s about sculpting, not slimming and progress comes steadily over time.
Whatever you choose, simple habits make a big difference: movement, reliable sleep-habits, and good hydration always aid overall good-health. Many providers also specifically suggest drinking plenty of water after body cavitation. This helps support your body’s natural processing and flushes out fat deposits quickly and safely.
What you should expect from a series of cavitation services?
Your first visit
You’ll talk through your goals with our therapists at the Spa, health history, and target areas with a provider. For body cavitation, the provider applies gel and glides a handheld ultrasound device over the area to evenly treat the full target zone. You may feel warmth and hear a gentle buzz during your experience.
Timing & comfort
Plan on 40 minutes for your visit. You can usually drive yourself, head to work, or run errands with no downtime required. You might notice slight warmth, redness, or tenderness in treated areas. When these occur, they are typically mild and short-term.
How many sessions?
Results are gradual and build over time. Many people notice a change by the third visit, if not before. Final results continue to develop over 6–12 weeks as your body processes targeted areas. Some plans call for a short series of treatments to hit your goal with occasional maintenance afterward. Your exact number depends on the area, your starting point, and your individual lifestyle.
Who is a good candidate?
Body cavitation is best for people who are close to their goal weight and want to smooth or refine small areas. It’s not for significant weight loss, and keeping realistic expectations is important. Your provider will advise you if cavitation is a good fit for you, or if another approach would serve you better.
Safety reminders
Therapeutic ultrasound procedures aren’t right for everyone. Your provider will screen for conditions like pregnancy, certain implants (e.g., pacemakers), open wounds, or skin issues in the treatment area. At this time, your therapist may suggest a different treatment based on your skin’s current state. Your goals, comfort and personal health are our primary concerns. As with any procedure, uncommon risks include blisters or burns if devices are misused. Our therapists are specifically trained and licensed in this technique for your safety and comfort. This alone is a great reason to choose Massage & Wellness Spa.
